Greater East Texas Diabetes Education
G.E.T. Diabetes Education Today!
Meet Kit

GET Diabetes Education was founded in 2009 by Kit McKinney, RDN, LD, CDE, CPT after observing a tremendous need for residents of East Texas to have immediate and ongoing access to Registered Dietitians and Certified Diabetes Educators.  The mission of GET Diabetes Education is to provide Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT) as well as quality Diabetes Self Management Training (DSMT) that is consistent, affordable, convenient and effective. As an active member of each individual’s diabetes care team, we partner with your physician to improve glucose control and overall health, while decreasing complications and associated health care costs.

Our comprehensive program is accredited by the American Association of Diabetes Educators (AADE). In order for a diabetes education program to be accredited by AADE, it must meet stringent protocols and is held to the highest of standards.  In fact, there are only a few AADE-accredited diabetes education programs in the state of Texas..and GET Diabetes Education is one of them!  For more information, click here.

Monica Simmons

Monica Simmons has lived with type 1 diabetes since the age of 5.  Thanks to diligent parents who learned all they could about diabetes and shared that knowledge with her, Monica understood her disease from an early age.  After earning a degree in Marketing from Georgetown College in Kentucky,  Monica found that she was at a unique advantage for marketing about diabetes to people living with diabetes, and ultimately put her degree and all her experience with diabetes to good use at DiabetesAmerica in Houston, TX.  There, she designed ads and brochures, crafted mailings, planned events, and managed their marketing department.  After several years, Monica opted  to work from home as a freelance marketing consultant and formed MDS Marketing.  Currently, she designs and writes content for websites, brochures, and other marketing material for GET Diabetes Education and other clients in the healthcare & nutrition industries.  For more information, please email Monica at
